Mobility
CERN’s Mobility Centre offers CERN’s community mobility services to move inside the campus and in between CERN’s sites and launches initiatives to develop sustainable mobility at CERN.
The Mobility Centre incorporates the CERN bike and car rental services, self-service car sharing, E-mobility (e-bikes, e-scooters and connected bikes), car rental for long-distance journeys, and manages CERN’s shuttles and on-demand transport solutions.
The service also supports users with the car plates documentation process and provides information on mobility.

Autonomous shuttle
As part of its commitment to sustainable and innovative mobility, CERN is currently running an autonomous shuttle pilot on the Meyrin campus (Circuit 1). Launched in March 2026, the pilot aims to assess whether a fully autonomous vehicle could replace a traditional shuttle service, evaluating key aspects such as safety, reliability, and passenger experience.

CERN Mobility Plan
CERN is actively encouraging employees, users, workers, and visitors to utilize sustainable transportation methods.
Between 2022 and 2023, a survey was conducted among CERN’s community to analyse the progress in this area and to identify new actions. The update of CERN’s Mobility Plan is grounded in the feedback from this survey, continuous analysis of opportunities, and the ambition to minimize the impact of CERN’s activities on the environment.
This mobility plan embodies a dynamic and long-term approach to accompany changes in behaviour regarding safety and mobility, emphasizing the promotion and fostering of equality among different modes of transportation, including accessibility for individuals with reduced mobility.
