CERN Hitchhiking Initiative
SCE department has launched a hitchhiking pilot initiative at CERN in 2025. This initiative encourages voluntary shared transport between the Meyrin and Prévessin sites, aiming to reduce single-occupancy vehicle use and enhance inter-site connections.
Three hitchhiking stations have been installed:
- Meyrin
- Road Fermi (near Bldgs. 376–377–378)
- Road Pauli (near Entrance B and Road Einstein)
- Prévessin
- Road Adams (near the site entrance)
Both CERN and private vehicles can participate. However, CERN vehicles may only pick up passengers within the fenced area, and all riders must carry a valid CERN access badge. Drivers using the inter-site tunnel should confirm their passengers have the required permit.
To refine and potentially expand the programme, users are invited to provide feedback via QR-code surveys available at each station.
